Code of Behaviour
LTPSS Library is an open-access resource centre, whose aim is to actively support teaching and learning within the school, encouraging all students to realize their own potential as life-long learners.
We aim to:
- Meet the needs of the community for information and literacy.
- Ensure the library satisfies those needs by constant evaluation of stock, monitoring curriculum requirements and providing a balance of print and non-print resources, in both English and Chinese Language medium, appropriate to the school’s needs.
- Apply a standard selection policy to ensure an excellent quality of resources.
- Develop student expertise in information seeking, retrieval and evaluation skills.
- Encourage a life-long love of reading.
- Promote continuing professional development for staff by the provision of a comprehensive range of resources.
- Provide informed and unbiased answers to queries from students and staff.
Code of Behaviour
- A general rule of silence applies to all areas of the library. The library is the only place in the school where students and staff can work or read in an environment free from disturbance. Students are asked to respect that.
- Food or drink may not be brought into the library.
- Bags must be placed on the shelves before entering the main library area.
- Photocopying is available near the main desk. All users must use their staff/student card. Charges are displayed beside the photocopier. Usage charges will be processed by the General Office.
- Staff and students are asked to respect the rules of copyright when photocopying information from books or musical scores. A copy of these regulations is on display at the photocopier area.
- Mobile phones must be turned off in the library. Students are strongly advised not to bring valuables into the library. The library staff will willingly take care of money and valuables for students whilst they are in the library but cannot accept any responsibility for personal belongings otherwise left. Students may use their own laptops or iPads but they must take responsibility for their security.
- In compliance with the whole school Internet Policy for students (see current student handbook), the computers in the library are to be used for searching the library catalogue, generally referred to as the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) or for research purposes only. One computer adjacent to the main desk will be a dedicated OPAC browser only and may not be used for any other purpose. There are no printing or scanning facilities available. Unacceptable use of the computers such as game-playing, inappropriate materials on personal devices or questionable internet use will not be tolerated. The same conditions apply to students using their own laptops or iPads.
- The library staff reserves the right to remove any student who fails to comply with the code of behaviour.
